When we first arrived in Canada last June, we stopped by my cousin's in BC for a visit. She worked at Walmart and Bea asked to see the store. While still in the Philippines, Bea spent countless hours watching youtube videos about new toys and they'd often feature toys bought from Walmart. I think she thinks of Walmart as a sort of Disneyland full of toys. So just as she was starting to miss our family back home, we visited a Walmart. Boy, was she happy! She squealed with delight when she spotted the toy aisle. They were selling all kinds of dolls, but she zoned in on one particular doll, the Elsa Doll. It was still a bit steep at $18 (on sale too!) but I still wanted to get it for her anyway. A little welcome to your new country sort of gift. Something to keep her mind off the toys and loved ones we left in the Philippines. Thankfully, when we were about to pay for the toy, my cousin paid for it, with an employee discount too!

We are so grateful for so many blessings. Thankful for wonderful family with generous hearts!

Of course now, we can also conveniently shop online on walmart.ca. They have free shipping too! The only hitch is that we still don't have a canadian credit card so.... online shopping will have to wait, And I tell myself... this is a good thing. Right? Right?

Tips on Teaching Your Child to Be More Organized

My parents hated clutter. They constantly reminded us to put away our things properly. My sister slowly adapted the habit. When she was younger, her room was cluttered like mine, but when she grew up, she learned the art of de-cluttering regularly. Sadly, I wasn’t able to develop that trait.

It was only when became an adult that I learned the value of organization. A cluttered space promotes a cluttered mind. Now I would like to teach my Bea how to be organized. At a young age, we can teach our children to appreciate the value of clean and orderly surroundings. They can always start with simple things they know very well, their toys.

Let me share with you tips on teaching your child the value of packing away their toys:

Let your child play with only one toy at a time. Allow her to bring out another toy from her toy chest only after she returns the previous toy properly.

Make up a song while you pack away. Make a game out of the activity. Make sure she finishes packing away her toy before the song is done.

Use clear and positive instructions. Say “Mommy would love it if you help in picking up your toys” or “Please return your dolls back to the toy chest”.

Appreciate and give praise for her actions. Let her know that you’re proud of her for remembering to pack away her toys properly.

Consistency is always important if you want this positive trait to develop into a habit. By constantly reminding your child to pack away her toys and then affirming her actions, this will set the foundation and eventually develop into a positive part of her personality as she grows up.

Bea Argues with Tiger

My daughter is seen here in midst of a heated argument with... her toy tiger. Apparently her tiger won't drink his milk and she is seen here explaining to Tiger why he should drink his milk: how he needs his milk to grow strong and healthy and tall. Notice how she is giving Tiger the evil eye, just the like the way mommy does... hehehe.

She just loves acting as mommy to her toys. She is so grown up!

sunday afternoon...

after lunch, Bea was already excited, she knew we were going out!

she wasn't able to sleep until we left for the mall. probably she was afraid she'd be left behind. when she heard daddy start the van, she was so excited, wanting to get in immediately. =) while on the way to the mall, she kept on babbling "beabeabeabea"... a little narcissistic i know, but heck, she's just a baby! =)

when we got to the mall, daddy bought bea the toy of her dreams... a little barney doll that sings whenever its tummy is pressed. Bea was ecstatic!

we also let her try those rides where you put in a token and the ride will move for SECONDS. hehehe. little bea was so enthralled with the first ride, a jeep! like daddy, like baby, she liked the idea of driving, although on the second time, she lost interest already and wanted to get off. then daddy put her on the ride where the seat is attached to a big wheel that goes round... on this ride she got afraid. too bad.
